A childhood aptly described is the one that Dr. Sunil Karad had in Rameshwar, Latur. Born on Thursday, 27th January 1972, in the family of Varkari Sampraday he was brought up in pious environment and in close association with nature amidst strong family values and high regard for Indian culture. Here, he developed – personally, socially and spiritually. Having done his primary schooling in Rameshwar, he went on to pursue higher planes of education beginning with secondary schooling in Pune. The journey of Dr. Sunil Karad began from a small town Rameshwar, Dist. Latur, gathered momentum in the City of Pune, blossomed in Sheffield, U.K and is now branching to various parts of the world with its roots nested in this city of Pune. It was evident that he had set a different path for himself with his choice of Alandi, the pilgrim town of Maharashtra for the establishment of the Maharashtra Academy of Engineering (MAE) in 1999.

This one quote personifies Dr. Sunil Karad and beautifully explains all his achievements. Not only did he dream big, but also had the perseverance to passionately follow them. The list of achievements is too long to compile and so, the few important achievements have been highlighted in this effort.
It begins from coming to Pune at a tender age and then, with self study and hard work, being a part of the glorious Jnana Prabodhini School – a feat not easy to achieve. This was the first step to the long ever growing path of accomplishments to follow. Each one of the projects he envisioned soon became a magnificent reality.
He selected Alandi, a pilgrim town near Pune, as the location for his first ever project of an engineering college, shocking many experienced academicians. The Maharashtra Academy of Engineering college, since then, has been a centre of excellence in engineering education. It went on to be the first ever engineering college under the University of Pune to be ISO 9001 certified. Professor Yogesh Bhalerao, Principal of the Maharashtra Academy of Engineering (MAE), Alandi (D), Pune, India, is on a Government funded visit to LJMU to develop the ongoing research cooperation and discuss future collaborative partnership working with Dr Michael Morgan of the General Engineering Research Institute (GERI). LJMU has worked with MAE on research collaboration for over six years.
